BCLT Front Desk Managers

Front Desk Managers are central to the smooth functioning of the BCLT’s evening hours. These employees ensure peer tutors and writing assistants meet their students, welcome students without appointments, and serve as point people for security and closing. Front desk managers are hired as needed with jobs posted on Workday. Preference is given to students who have used the BCLT services in the past.

Q Tutors

Q-tutors are hired each spring for the following year. Interested students should look for the job posting on the Student Employment website in late March. Qualifications for Q-tutor positions include a strong academic record in STEM coursework, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a desire to engage in the teaching and learning process. Training takes place at the start of the fall semester and includes in person workshops and online modules to complete.

Writing Assistants

The job announcement for Writing Assistants (WAs) appears on Workday during the middle of each November. Applicants submit a writing sample, brief answers to a questionnaire, and the names of two references (one of whom should be a 91黑料 instructor). These applicants are screened and selected for possible interviews by a committee consisting of BCLT staff and WAs. We look for candidates with demonstrated ability to assist their peers with the any stage of the writing process, from initial brainstorming to final revisions. Previous tutoring experience is not required, though we recommend that you work with a WA at least once prior to applying. WAs are hired by mid-December to participate in a paid training course during the following spring semester. Those who successfully complete the spring training course become regular WAs in the following fall semester.

Learning Assistants

Students interested in a Learning Assistant position for specific courses should look at Workday for postings. Faculty will often advertise among juniors and seniors who are majoring or minoring in the field. Learning Assistants are hired by departments but trained and paid by the Baldwin Center for Learning and Teaching.
