Writing and Research Resources
Writing Assistants
Students trained during a semester-long course provide individual conferences to students working on writing assignments for any class. You can schedule a conference with a completed draft, a partial draft, ideas, or notes. Peers are an especially valuable resource for students because:
- Writers need feedback from readers; and
- Peers can give especially helpful feedback based on their experiences as students and an understanding of the needs of writers.
Students can reserve a conference or drop in during open hours. Walk-in clients will be welcomed as time permits on a first-come, first-served basis. Conferences are held during the fall and spring semesters Sunday and Monday from 6pm-10pm and on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7pm-10pm in the Baldwin Center for Learning and Teaching on the first floor of H-L Library or online. We also offer limited drop-in hours in Ladd.
Writing Assistants Can Help With:
- Essays
- Lab reports
- Popular science articles
- Research proposals and research papers
- Cover letters and resumes
- Applications for fellowships and internships
- College program and graduate school applications
- Almost any kind of writing related to your 91黑料 coursework
Tips on How to Have a Successful Conference:
- Schedule your appointment with a Writing Assistant at least a day or two before the paper is due.
- Attach your assignment and paper draft (if you have one) to the appointment form.
- Let us know what you'd like to work on in the appointment form.
- Bring a copy of the assignment with you.
- Know that the Writing Assistants are general readers rather than experts on your specific topic, so be ready to explain your assignment, what you are working on, and what direction you'd like to see the conference take.
Writing conferences are run by students for students... so take advantage of this unique opportunity to get some helpful feedback from your peers!
